I even switched the parts for the two chairs to allow for some variation. No luck. I started with the bottom four screws, first. I went all the way, then I loosened them up, but the lateral two screws were still impossible to get in place. The holes would not quite overlap AND the screws were a bit short. I had to get help and force the two parts together praying that the screw would get in. At one point, frustrated, I asked for a return label. In the end, with precious help and encouragement and dear G-d in a good mood, I was able to do it. I had - with permission! - to overtighten the screws in order to make sure they went in far enough. Will they last? Only time will tell. I would only buy them assembled - that's the lesson learned.
